INNOVATE COUNTIES CHALLENGE, NAIROBI COUNTY

UN Habitat in partnership with BitHub Africa are announcing a two-day Hackathon event which aims to increase youth participation in decision making processes and achieving transparency and accountability the local county government level.

The Hackathon is scheduled to happen on October 6th and 7th 2017. Local Entrepreneurs, Developers and Designers will help find new ways that ICT solutions can be adopted and used by local county government in partnership with UN Habitat to increase transparency, accountability and collaboration.

Participants are encouraged to utilize Blockchain, AI, IOT and Social Media digital tools.

All applications will be accepted from 26 September to 4th October, 2017.

PITCH GUIDELINES
The team will be given 7 minutes each to pitch their problem solving Ideas or Concept using ONLY the aid of PowerPoint presentations. Another 5 minutes will be set aside for questions from the judging panel, which will consist of the following individuals:

1. UN Habitat Official
2. Experienced Startup Leader
3. BitHub Africa Official

JUDGEMENT CRITERIA
The teams will be judged on the following criteria: (10 marks for each criteria)

1. Problem Solving: Does the idea/concept provide a solution in areas relevant to the theme of the competition.
2. Team Cohesiveness: How well has the team worked together across different roles.
3. Presentation Style: Was the idea or concept communicated in a clear and understandable manner to the judges.
4. Technology Expertise: Did the team have a clear understanding of the problem or challenge that needs to be solved. Did the team adapt the right technology resourcefully to solve the identified problem.
5. Product Demonstration: Did team demonstrate competence in developing a minimum viable product concept. Extra marks for actual demos during the pitch.

Teams are advised to practice their pitches many times ahead of the competition to ensure they meet the pitch guidelines and judgement criteria.

WINNERS
There will be 3 winners in the hackathon. They will be awarded as follows:

1. Winners: KES 200,000.00
2. 1st Runners Up: KES 100,000.00
3. 2nd Runners Up: KES 50,000.00

The Winner will be incubated at BitHub Africa for a period of 3 weeks to allow the team to develop the Minimum Viable Product(MVP) in a comfortable environment. They will also receive advise and mentorship during the said period.

All participants in lieu of there participation will receive a copy of The African Blockchain Opportunity Report(133 Pages) published by BitHub.Africa valued @ $30.00. They will also have access to learning and training resources on Pitching, Marketing provided by BitHub Africa at a follow up Bootcamp to be announced at a later date.

LEGAL TERMS OF HACKATHON
BitHub Africa and UN Habitat will not assume ANY legal rights on concepts and products(including software) presented at the hackathon.

The participants by enlisting in this hackathon have agreed to the above terms.
